Long-Term Volunteer Sources

  • Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP): With over 500,000 volunteers, RSVP is America’s largest volunteer network for people ages 55+.  RSVP can serve as a great resource for nonprofit organizations looking for volunteers with experience.  This is a cost-free service for both volunteer and organization.  The website provides a list of regional RSVP office contacts for every state.
  • Americorps VISTA: Another resource for nonprofits looking for volunteers. Since 1965, Americorps VISTA has been the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty.  VISTA volunteers commit to serve full-time for a year at a nonprofit organization or local government agency, working to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups, and much more.  VISTA members receive a modest living allowance, health care, and other benefits.  Nonprofits are required to fill out an application and be reviewed before getting VISTA members, but there is no financial cost to the organization for any of the services.
