Volunteering in India

ServiceLeader.Org and the Virtual Volunteering Project are U.S.-focused initiatives, but given the nature of the boundless Internet, we receive numerous inquiries from many individuals and organizations outside of our country's borders.

One of the most frequently asked questions has been where to find resources to volunteer in India, or in support of India. Members of ARNOVA and soc.org.nonprofit contributed the following information.

    United Nations Volunteer program
    Places volunteers throughout the world, including India, and has links to other organizations who do so as well.

  • ProPoor
    A non profit organization registered in Calcutta (India), Singapore and Atlanta, Georgia (USA). ProPoor has developed an Internet portal of information on South Asian non governmental organizations (that includes India), donors, events, projects, leaders, jobs, volunteers, volunteering opportunities and links.

  • Habitat for Humanity India
    Works in India building and selling homes to low-income families.

  • Idealist.org
    Has helpful links to volunteer opportunities on a wide range of issues in India.

  • Society for Participatory Research in Asia
    A Johns Hopkins research partner
