FAQs About the Virtual Volunteering Project
our own online volunteers Since the Virtual Volunteering Project's launch in December 1996, more than 300 online volunteers have helped the Project via home or work computers. Their contributions have been absolutely vital to the success of this program -- we want the involvement of the cyberspace community in this Project, just as other organizations work to involve their local communities in onsite programs. A focus on maintaining volunteer involvement in this Project is in keeping with our strong commitment to collaboration. In addition to their accomplishments listed on our site, many of these volunteers also offer suggestions about VV Project materials and activities, and answer various technical questions from the VV Project Manager. We value not only their time (well more than 2000 hours of service to date) and expertise, but their advice and thoughtfulness about this Project as well! Our online volunteers have ranged in age from 14 to 71, and are scattered around the United States (and some are outside the country, many from Canada). They were recruited via the Project Web site, which most found because they were using an online search engine to find a volunteering opportunity -- on or offline.
Volunteers who complete online assignments for our Project may display this logo on their Web site:
Virtual Pioneers: The Original IOL Online Volunteers How I involve online volunteers A first-hand account of how Jayne Cravens, Manager of the Virtual Volunteering Project, recruits, screens, assigns, and manages these online volunteers. See how the suggestions here on the Project's Web site are put into practice at our own organization.
