1997-98 project volunteers
From January 1997 through December 1998, more than 80 online volunteers helped the VV Project via their home or work computers, providing more than 800 hours of service. In addition to their accomplishments listed below, many of these volunteers also offered suggestions about materials on the Project Web site and answered technical questions from the Project Manager. A great deal of the Project's success in its first two years can be attributed to these online supporters:

Researched online mentoring programs and key information for colleges and universities in VV affiliate cities and converted electronic newsletters to .html for use on the VV Project Web site.

Helped find Web-based resources on IBM/Clone and macintosh compatibility, suggestions and shareware that can help people working on a variety of computers, software and operating systems work together via the Internet, for use in the Handbook for Online Volunteers; researched contact information for professional groups with a focus on hispanic membership, so that the Project could outreach to these groups regarding virtual volunteering; reviewed National Service web sites for volunteer management resources the VV Project can link to; reviewed archives of survey responses to make sure those who wished to remain anonymous had identifying information removed from the archive; and, inconjuntion with the VV Project, inputted volunteer opportunities for Sanchez Elementary School in Austin, Texas into various online volunteer centers (VolunteerMatch, Action Without Borders, ServeNet, etc.), and wrote a comparision of what it was like to use each service.

Took on the daunting task of converting and archiving more than 150 applications submitted to the Project by individuals who wanted to volunteer online. After helping IOL prior to 1996 as its main tech support volunteer, Scotty became the VV Project's first online volunteer, creating various .pl files for the automated surveys on the Project's Web site.
